SharePlease upgrade to a browser that supports frames.Well its been awhile since I have updated my blog but its been a little hectic.We started lambing on the 8th of March ,we also had my beautiful grandaughter's first birthday and naming ceremony on the 24th and yes the sheep were very good we had a set of twins at

5 am and nothing else all day so we were able to enjoy her special day.

Up to now I am very pleased with this years lambs Anton appears to have done a grand job,colours well once again we have had the shetland surprises as you will see in the pictures,we have some gorgeous gulmogets and some handsome moorits and the odd black.

We sadly lost two little one's, one of which was unable to suck we tube fed her but she didn't make it,the other little one we think was premature tiny tiny very frail but fought a good fight lost his battle after four days,I really hate losing any of our babies.At the time of writing this we have four ewes left to lamb one of which could go fairly soon.

The show schedules are already arriving for the coming season all been well we will be attending about five of the local shows starting with Devon County so come and see us we will be pleased to see you hopefully we will be there all three days showing on the Thursday .

update for Furzehill Shetlands

Well Christmas has been and gone it has been really wet and muddy so we haven't much in the way of grass.

Ten of my little ewe lambs have gone to their new home and I wish their new owners every success with them . Because my ram went in with the ewes a lot earlier this year I decided to have them scanned to give me an idea when they will start to lamb,so last Monday Alan came with his machine and everything went very smoothly and all twenty eight ewes are in lamb even the two girls that didn't lamb last year,so very pleased with the result Anton has been a very busy chap,can't wait to see his offspring.

We have kept one of the ram lambs a rather nice polled moorit gulmoget he has a lovely nature and nice fleece we will have to see how he grows on, we might show him this year.

We have kept six little females two black gulmogets two real blacks and two black/dark brown hopefully two of these will join the ram lamb for this seasons showing.

ShareWinter is upon us and over the last few days we have had hail, snow, rain strong winds and thunder, at least this year the ewes can come back from the fields and into a dry shed although the track is very muddy at least they can get out of the weather if they prefer.

The ram lambs have a good shelter and the little ewe lambs were brought in this week.so all have dry beds.

All the ponies are wearing rugs for the first time dear Jessie was not pleased with hers but she seems fine now ,Ash is happy with his rug and stands outside in the wet I do believe he is testing it and dear Petal the oldest girl is more than happy in hers but she did get used to hers last winter.

Anton has been very busy with his ewes so hopefuly all his ewes are safely pregnant.

Are dear friend Ann brought her four ewes to go to the ram this year and I believe all four have been served so hopefully Ann can look forward to her first lambs in the coming spring, watch this space.

Anton has been a real gentleman with his ewes and is very good tempered we can walk around the field or shed without any worries with him we are very pleased with his behaviour and are really looking forward to his lambs.

I have managed to make a few felted sculptures which have sold quite well .Picture inserted of the latest one

But the best news of all is that my dear youngest son is now mobile and on the road to recovery after an awful accident at work back in October, he and his lovely little family have done so well and I only hope things will get better for them next year at least his adorable baby girl has given us plenty to smile about over the last two or three months.

WE DELIVERED FURZEHILL DILLON TO HIS NEW HOME LAST WEEK ,HE WAS SUCH A GOOD CHAP ,JODIE WENT IN THE FIELD WITH THE HALTER POPPED IT ON HIM WALKED HIM UP THE TRACK AND INTO THE TRAILER.AND WHEN WE GOT TO HIS NEW HOME HE WENT INTO THE PEN WITH TWO WETHERS WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WHAT A STAR HE IS.

WE HAVE ENJOYED LOOKING AFTER DILLON SINCE HE WAS BORN HE HAS HAD THAT SPECIAL SOMETHING.WE WILL MISS HIM.

DILLON HAS GONE TO A SUPERB HOME WITH SOME LOVELY EWES .HOPEFULLY HE WILL GIVE SOME BEAUTIFUL LAMBS TO HIS NEW OWNER ARE BEST WISHES TO YOU BLANDINE.

OUR NEW RAM ANTON HAS SETTLED WELL AND HE AND HIS EWES HAVE GONE INTO ARE BIGGEST FIELD ,WHICH MEANS WE HAVE A GOOD WALK THROUGH THE MUD EVERY DAY TO CHECK ALL IS WELL ,THEY SEEM VERY HAPPY AND DON'T COME BACK TO THE SHED VERY OFTEN,THEY HAVE ALL PUT ON WEIGHT AND ARE LOOKING WELL.

BOTH EWE AND RAM LAMBS ARE DOING WELL AND WE HAVE BOTH FOR SALE.

FUMBLE THE LITTLE ESCAPE ARTIST IS AT LAST STAYING PUT AFTER A COUPLE OF ADVENTURES FINDING HER MUM AND INTRODUCING HERSELF TO THE NEW MAN IN HER MUMS LIFE PERHAPS SHE WANTED TO MAKE SURE HE WAS THE RIGHT ONE. WELL THATS ALL FOR NOW.

THE ARRIVAL OF THE LATEST ADDITION TO THE FLOCK WAS LOOMING CLOSER ,WE HAD BEEN TO SEE HIM A LITTLE WHILE AGO AND DECIDED HE WOULD HOPEFULLY BE GOOD FOR THE FLOCK.

WITH A GOOD FLEECE AND COMFORMATION,SLIGHTLY HEAVEY HORNS, BUT WE ARE HOPING THAT THIS WILL GIVE STRONGER HORNS ON OUR RAM LAMBS

WE HAD LOTS OF WORK TO DO BEFORE HE ARRIVED, TAGGING AND WEANING THE LAMBS, EWE HEALTH CHECK AND DRENCH , FENCES TO MAKE STOCK PROOF OR SHOULD I SAY LAMB PROOF,TEMPORARY FIELD SHELTER TO MAKE,AND SO THE LIST WENT ON.

AND OF COURSE OUR HOME BRED FURZEHILL DILLON HAS TO GO TO HIS NEW HOME TO MAKE ROOM FOR ANTON.WE WILL MISS DILLON HE HAS BEEN A PERFECT GENTLEMAN WITH PERFECT MANNERS IN FACT A JOY TO LOOK AFTER .WE WISH HIS NEW OWNERS SOME LOVELY LAMBS FROM HIM.

WHAT DO THEY SAY BEST LAYED PLANS OF MICE AND MEN?

WELL I SPOKE TO DILLONS NEW OWNERS AND THEY CAN'T HAVE HIM TILL AFTER THE WEEKEND OOPS! I WILL BE ON A STANDSTILL FOR SIX DAYS,WHAT TO DO TILL THEN?

ON THE BEST OF ADVICE AND TAKEN THE NEW RAM WILL HAVE TO GO IN WITH THE EWES.

WE MIGHT GET THE ODD EARLY LAMB APPARENTLY SO WATCH THIS SPACE.

AFTER A WEEK OR SO OF HARD WORK AND PREPERATION.AT LAST SATURDAY THE 24TH

THE TRAILER PULLED INTO THE DRIVE AND WE UNLOADED THE VERY HANSOME WILLOWCROFT ANTON.

WHAT A GOOD CHAP WALKED DOWN THE DRIVE AND INTO THE EWES FIELD.

AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF SNIFFING THE EWES AND HAVING A GOOD LOOK AROUND ANTON OR TOJO AS I HAVE NICK NAMED HIM IS GRAZING HAPPILY.

AND NOW WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR AND THE ARRIVAL OF HIS OFFSPRING.

Please upgrade to a browser that supports frames.ShareTHE LEAVES ARE BEGINING TO CHANGE COLOUR,THE NIGHTS ARE DRAWING IN WITH A CHILL IN THE AIR,THOUGHTS OF GETTING READY TO PUT THE TUP IN WITH THE EWES.

THIS YEAR WILL BE OUR FIRST FULL YEAR AT COPPERFIELDS MANY THINGS HAVE TAKEN PLACE SINCE LAST NOVEMBER AND AT LAST THE PLACE IS REALLY TAKING SHAPE.

THE EWES ARE QUITE SETTLED NOW AND ARE ENJOYING THE DIFFERENT PADDOCKS AND SEEM TO LOVE THE CHANGE EVERY TWO OR THREE WEEKS.

WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT ARE LATEST ADDITION COMING TO JOIN THE FLOCK VERY SOON, ANTON WHO IS BY HEIGHTS ORION.

THIS YEAR COULD PROVE INTERESTING WITH OUR GOOD FRIENDS ANN AND NICKS EWES COMING TO STAY FOR A WHILE TO BE TUPPED BY ANTON REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE OUTCOME.

THE ONLY BLIP AT THE MOMENT FURZEHILL DILLON WILL BE OFF TO PASTURES NEW AND WILL BE ON DUTY WITH A NEW SET OF EWES I WISH HIS NEW OWNERS ALL THE BEST AND I HOPE HE PRODUCES SOME LOVELY LAMBS AS HE DID FOR US. MANY OF WHICH ARE GOING TO BE RETAINED.

DILLON HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TO OWN SINCE DAY ONE AND WE CAN'T FAULT HIS BEHAVIOUR HE WILL BE MISSED BUT HE IS GOING TO A FINE HOME .

Okehampton Show

Please upgrade to a browser that supports frames.THE END OF SHOW SEASON FOR THE FURZEHILL FLOCK,

OKEHAMPTON SHOW WAS THE LAST FOR US FOR THIS YEAR, ITS BEEN A GOOD YEAR WITH SEVERAL FIRSTS AND SECOND PRIZES AND A SPRINKLE OF THIRDS AND FOURTHS.

OKEHAMPTON WAS A LITTLE DAMP THIS YEAR BUT AS ALWAYS A GOOD SHOW.

WE HAD FOUR SHETLAND BREEDERS AT THE SHOW AND FIVE ENTERED.NEW TO SHOWING AMANDA AND DAVID BOWEN WHO TOOK SECOND PLACE WITH THEIR BEAUTIFUL RAM LAMB IN A CLASS OF 21 MIXED RARE MINORITY AND RARE BREEDS ALSO THIRD WITH THEIR EWE LAMB IN ANOTHER CLASS OF 19,WHAT A BRILLIANT START.

AFTER SPEAKING TO THE SECRETARY AFTER THE SHOW ITS LOOKING GOOD FOR CLASSES OF OUR OWN NEXT YEAR WHICH WILL GIVE US ANOTHER SHOW WITH SHETLAND CLASSES.

WE WERE REALLY PLEASED WITH A LITTLE POLLED MOORIT GULMOGET WHO ALTHOUGH BORN RATHER LATE ACHIEVED A FOURTH IN THE RAM LAMB CLASS AT THIS SHOW AND A SECOND IN NORTH DEVON .JACOB OUR OLDEST GRANDSON HAD HIS FIRST ATTEMPT AT SHOWING IN THE CHILD HANDLER CLASS AND DIDN'T HE DO A GOOD JOB.

ShareTHE NEXT THING IS TO SORT OUT THINGS READY FOR TUPPING AND A POSSIBLE NEW RAM JOINING THE FLOCK WE WILL BE GOING TO HAVE A LOOK AT HIM IN A WEEK OR TWO.WATCH THIS SPACE FOR UP DATES.

WELL SHOW SEASON IS COMING TO AN END ONLY ONE LEFT OKEHAMPTON ON THE 11th OF AUGUST.HOPEFULY WE WILL GET A GOOD TURNOUT AND FINGERS CROSSED DARE WE HOPE FOR SHETLAND CLASSES FOR NEXT YEAR.

ALL IN ALL WE HAVE HAD A GOOD SEASON WITH 1st's 2nd's, 3rd'S &4ths SO WE ARE MORE THAN PLEASED.

WE ENJOY SHOWING ARE BEAUTIFUL SHETLANDS AND TO GET THAT RIBBON AT THE END OF THE DAY IS THAT SPECIAL BONUS,BUT GETTING THE SHETLAND BREED OUT THERE FOR THE PUBLIC TO SEE WHAT VERSATILE SHEEP THEY ARE IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT.

MALCOLM HAD TO LEAVE US AT THE SHOW YESTERDAY TO TRY AND GET THE HAY BALED BEFORE THE RAIN AFTER MANY BREAKDOWNS WITH TRACTOR AND TURNER IT WAS READY TO BALE THEN YES YOU'VE GUESSED IT BALER DECIDES TO SAY I'M NOT GOING TO WORK NIGHTMARE, THE CLOUDS WERE GETTING DARKER WHEN THE MECHANIC ARRIVED AND AT LONG LAST BALES .

JUST AS WELL ITS BEEN RAINING EVER SINCE.

WE WILL HAVE SOME NICE LAMBS FOR SALE A LITTLE LATER ON BOTH EWE'S AND RAMS SO PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR DETAILS AND YOU WILL BE MOST WELCOME TO VISIT .

Mid Devon Show

THE WEATHER WAS BRILLIANT FOR THE MID DEVON SHOW,WE ARRIVED IN PLENTY OF TIME SO NOT TO MUCH STRESS.

SO MANY BEAUTIFUL SHETLANDS THE QUALITY IMPROVES EVERY YEAR WITH BIG CLASSES AND MORE BREEDERS.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRISTINA WHO TOOK THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A GEORGOUS BLACK SHEARLING WHO REALLY DESERVED TO WIN.

WE GOT A FIFTH AND A THIRD, FIRST FOR WOOL ON THE HOOF.

AND OUR FLEECE CAME FIRST AND THEN WENT RESERVE CHAMPION SO IN ALL WE HAD A GOOD DAY,THE ONLY BLIP ON THE DAY WAS ARE FRIENDS COULDN'T MAKE IT WHICH WAS SUCH A SHAME.

THE NEXT SHOW IS NORTH DEVON ON THE 3RD OF AUGUST,SO IF YOU WANT A GOOD DAY OUT COME AND JOIN US AND COME OVER FOR A CHAT.

Next in this years diary

.Less than a week and we will be showing at the mid Devon show .Three lambs need training and the rest need a little work,(or should I say a lot of work)

The weather is against us once again the fields are muddy and the grass which is growing well is having an adverse effect on a few lambs,and they really don't like their ends washed.

Mind you I don't like the job either and for some reason I always get the short straw.I think Jodie should get this job.

Tomorrow a job I really dislike a couple of shearlings have got to go down the line,this is something I don't like and I don't seem to get used to it.

On a lighter note looking out of the window it looks as if I'm going to get wet again oh joy!

We have started sorting fleeces and we have some nice fleeces for hand spinning one of which yet to be decided is going to the show at the end of the week.If any body would like a shetland fleece for hand spinning please contact me.
